The construction of the center of medicine 'Tzumi Muraya' was finished in October 2009. In the region where we are located we still find beautyful virgen rainforest where we can find medicinal plants and trees and animals in abundance. Here you will find Don Juan Curico, Roy van der Meijs and Don Abraham Guevara.
Don Juan Curico :
Has been dedicating himself for more than 40 years to traditional medicine. Originally he is Cocama (from the Cocama indians, tribe) that were together with the Shipibo indians the most famous and most dedicated to the medicinal plants. Don Juan Curico is a humble and friendly curandero and knows his work well; he was raised by his grandparents who were in these times both great and respected curanderos within their community and although they have passed away, when necesary they still assist him spiritually in the traditional healing ceremonies. His iniciation and plant diets began at the age of eight as he tells us and thus to him it all came naturally. The Amazon rainforest is the biggest pharmacy of the world he believes. Diseases that Don Juan Curico is familiar with and succesfully has cured include insomnia, depression, leukaemia, diabetes, vaginal diseases, infertile men and women, arthritis, osteoarthritis, (breast) cancer and various skin diseases.
Roy van der Meijs
For more than 6 years Roy has been dedicating himself to traditional medicine with great compassion and honesty. Through the strict diets and participations/iniciations during healing ceremonies, he was able to connect himself with the ancestral spirit (Tzumi Murayas) and transmit their energy. This connection requires strong discipline and sacrefices, but is of great value and importance in the healing ceremonies.
The great desire of nature is that we as human beings understand and feel the connection/relation to eachother; we should feel joy and happyness every minute that we live on this planet. The Amazon rainforest is a great and magical place to experience and practice the Medicine and grow toward a healtier physical, mental and spiritual condition.
At the center Roy usually assist in the healing ceremonies and as he speaks both English and Spanish he translates for the visitors/patients when necesary.
Don Abraham Guevara
Originally from the highlands of Peru, but grew up in the forest. In these times almost everybody went to a curandero (medicineman) when something was wrong and so Don Abraham was brought to them as well several times. These were the doctors in these times he says. As Abraham has been living most of his time in the forest he has learned a lot about the medicinal plants and trees found in the rainforest. He is a great cultivator as well, a strong and knowledgeable man and always shows a great interest in visitors from other countries, willing to share and exchange knowledge. Don Abraham and Don Juan know eachother a long time and have created a community in the past. Abraham still is a recognized and respected person within the local community when it is about to defend and protect the rainforest from the gold diggers and oil companies that try to enter from time to time; having a corrupt (local) government, the community people understand that it is up to them to defend their natural resources and so far they had succes in Mazan!
Our organisation invests time and money in the realisation of a botanical garden of medicinal plants that we work with and the goal is to stimulate this in other parts as well. During the stay of visitors we give explanations of the traditional uses of plants that we cultivate ourselves and the plants and trees we visit during hikes through the forest. Also we do cultivate typical fruittrees like mangos, grapefruites and bananas for example and yucca (jungle potato) the same way as done by the locals. Our property lies on a higher part of the forest, but is surrounded by small creeks. It is our idea for the close future to create a big lagoon out of these creeks to grow several fish species in as a food source that we could use in the traditional plant diets for our visitors and ourselves. If you could support us and would like to cooperate with us, please contact us for the possebilities.
